Welcome to my world of anti-aging and beauty!

I started my DIY Botox journey in early 2020 during the Covid quarantine. I was 41 and had been getting botox religiously for the past 10 years.  I was due to have my bi-annual botox appointment on March 25th when the world shut down.  Over the next two months I slowly watched my face age rapidly. My frown lines and forehead wrinkles were the worst and I began to panic wondering when the world and my face would ever go back to normal.

In between my Netflix binges I began researching DIY Botox, fillers and anything anti-aging. I quickly discovered an entire world of Korean products and devices that were accessible to the public.  I watched tutorials, read books and found resources that led me down a path of about 200 hours of extensive research

What I discovered is that pretty much anything skincare and anti-aging originates in South Korea. They are the innovators and everything starts there and eventually makes it’s way to the United States. Often times a manufacturer that has a product in the US or that is waiting to be FDA approved in the US can be found in South Korea for a fraction of the price. Sometimes it has a different name but is the exact same product.  For example:  The product Nabota is approved for use in South Korea and Europe and is the generic of Jeuveau here in the United States.  They are both Botulinum Type A toxins and have the exact same effects when used.

Here is some basic info on Botulinums and how they work:

What Is Botulinum Toxin?

Botulinum toxin is a product of a bacteria called C botulinum. This type of bacteria is found naturally in the environment and is common in soil. As the bacteria grows it produces a neurotoxin botulinum toxin which results in the paralysis of muscles. There are different types of botulinum toxins and they differ in characteristics. The common type of botulinum toxin used today that is known throughout the world is botulinum toxin type A. This type of botulinum is marketed as Botox Cosmetic, and has many benefits that can help with anti-aging. Botox can reduce and eliminate wrinkles by freezing or weakening muscular contractions in the face.

Types of Botulinums

The word Botox is used to describe all of the types of botulinums.

  • Onabotulinumtoxin A – known as Botox

  • Abobotulinumtoxin A – known as Dysport

  • Incobotulinumtoxin A – known as Xeomin

  • Rimabotulinumtoxin B – known as Myobloc

  • Prabotulinumtoxin A – known as Jeuveau ( Also known as Nabota in South Korea)

What Are the Benefits and How Does Botox Work?

When Botox is used correctly in the right doses it is safe to use, and can have many benefits. Botox has few side effects, and when injected into the skin, Botox disrupts nerve signals and causes temporary muscle paralysis. When muscles contract our nerves release acetylcholine, and Botox prevents the release of acetylcholine to stop our muscles from contracting. This smooths out our skin, and causes wrinkles to disappear.

Common Areas Botox Is Used

  • Crow’s feet area or for wrinkles around the eyes

  • Lines around or near the corners of the mouth

  • Relaxing the jaw or chin

  • Bunny Lines on the nose

  • Strong neck muscles

  • Wrinkles or creases in the forehead

  • Glabellar lines also known as elevens, or wrinkles between the eyebrows

The Botox is diluted and injected into the facial neuromuscular tissue to help reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Typically, Botox takes between 24-72 hours to take effect, but the full effects will not develop until 5-7 days after your treatment. Botox results last anywhere between 3-12 months, and gives a natural looking smooth youthful appearance.
