Gut Health and Your Skin

Treating your body from within is the key to beautiful radiant skin. What we put in our bodies directly affects our gut health, and in turn our skin. Taking care of our bodies and trying to avoid stress can help keep us healthy, and give you that youthful glow.

What Is the Gut Health Connection With Our Skin?

Many don’t think that what you eat can affect your skin. Glowing skin and staying healthy really does begin with your gut. What we choose to put in our bodies directly affects our skin health, and can help us to look youthful and glowing.

If you think about it your gut is where it all starts. The food we eat provides nutrients to our bodies and skin, and if we eat unhealthy foods, we are not supporting our bodies the way we should be. Our gut is where most of our immune system is located, and if our gut is not balanced our bodies can be affected. If we do not provide enough healthy nutrients to our bodies, our skin will also be affected.

As we age collagen and elastin production decrease, and our skin tends to look dull and looses that youthful glow. With good food that contains high levels of antioxidants and nutrients, we can feed our skin from within, and help promote collagen production. Our skin is our largest organ on our body, and in order to help our bodies to look and feel young, we must focus on keeping our gut healthy.

How Can I Keep My Gut Healthy?

Everything can affect our gut health including stress, antibiotics, alcohol, processed foods, and many more. Even natural environment pollutants can cause issues with our gut. The gut contains many beneficial bacteria, and in order to keep the gut well balanced and our bacteria happy, there are things we can do in our everyday routines that can help.

Eat a Healthy Diet

Eating a healthy diet with natural whole foods that are not processed is a key component to gut health. Healthy foods encourage the growth of good bacteria that our gut needs to make sure we feel our best. This in turn makes our skin glow, stay youthful, and not look dull and dry.

Take a Probiotic

Probiotics contain good bacteria that can feed our gut. You can find probiotics in yogurts or in pill form. Read the ingredients and make sure whatever probiotic you choose does not contain high amounts of sugar.

Try to de-stress

Stress plays an important role in our gut and skin health. Exercise and relaxation can help encourage good bacteria, and keep you feeling great and your skin glowing.

Lacto-Fermented Foods

Lacto-fermented foods are known to help with radiant skin. Foods such as sauerkraut, kimchi, or kefir are made using a fermentation process. This process helps to create good bacteria, and allows the body to digest the nutrients easier. This results in a healthy gut, reduces inflammation, and keeps your body and skin looking youthful.
